New Cz-usa P-10 Compact 9mm Blk/blk 15+1 Review

CZ-P-10-C gun review

"Improving on Perfection" CZ-U.s.a. boldly proclaims, promoting their new P-10 C. I'thou sure CZ's lawyers would swear that the slogan is all about making their guns better. Clearly, it's a shot over GLOCK'due south bow. A claim that begs us to nitpick the heck out of this gun. Game on!

Nestled in the CZ's lockable plastic box: pocket-size, medium, and large backstraps, two fifteen-circular magazines, a cleaning brush and rod, a manufactory examination target, a cable gun lock, the owner's manual, and . . . a boring-looking gun. Gone are most of the P-07/09 series' aggressive styling cues; the hard lines, angles, tails, runway, swoops, and loops.

I think Jon of The Gun Collective was right: if you want to take a clamper of the Civic'south market, you create a Corolla. (Well, he was more often than not right; the Corolla predates the Civic by six years.) The CZ P-10 C may non exist exciting, merely neither is Gaston's gat. A little less polarizing and a little more pedestrian tin accept mass appeal, or at to the lowest degree mass acceptance.

Check out the photograph higher up. Which is the P-x C and which is the G19? Time'south up! The GLOCK'southward on the left. It'due south hard to tell from the photo, but the CZ's grip texture squares are a scrap larger and sharper. The corners and edges are closer to true ninety° angles. The P-10'due south grip is just every bit comfortable equally the GLOCK's, even when shooting bare-handed outside in sub-freezing weather. Merely the CZ is hands-down — actually, hands stuck right in identify — grippier.

The P-ten C (left) must have the fattest, burliest barrel lugs and locking block to ever appear in a pistol of this sort. It looks like information technology could swallow the GLOCK equivalents (correct) for breakfast.

Also up in the nitrided steel slide: the flat coil recoil bound on a polymer guide rod, the striker and striker block components, a salubrious extractor, and the aforementioned state-and-groove rifled barrel with full-width lugs. Slide rail inserts, lugs, pins, and everything else inside the frame is bulky, also.

The ambidextrous slide terminate is a unique blueprint that I haven't seen before. It's a hoop of solid steel that engages the bottom of the breech face rather than a picayune notch in the slide. Likewise, the trigger bar is a hoop of solid steel that runs effectually both sides underneath the slide terminate.

CZ has never paid much attention to tool marks in non-wear, non-visible areas; the P10-C is cleaner than the norm for them. Notation how thick the slide is at the olfactory organ where the recoil spring seats. Similar the butt lugs, this is more than twice the steel I'm used to seeing. I feel similar I could bulldoze railroad spikes with the P-ten's slide components.

Except for the striker associates, peradventure. Nothing wrong with it, simply I'm certain CZ could have figured out how to include more blocks of steel here. Also a missed opportunity to go with a spade-shaped striker face so even spent brass looks GLOCKed.

Another characteristic plant in fired GLOCK cases (especially from higher pressure rounds): the "GLOCK grinning." That'due south a slight case bulge from the lack of full case support above the feed ramp. CZ chose not to emulate this, either. The P-10 C rocks a very well-supported sleeping accommodation. It's withal generous in its diameter and then as to function with utmost reliability — a friction match sleeping accommodation information technology is not — merely example support is equally proficient every bit it gets.

You field strip and reassemble the P-ten C exactly equally you would a…await for information technology…GLOCK. CZ has molded a single recoil slot into the accessory runway. The track itself is foursquare rather than weirdly angled, but it'southward notwithstanding more reminiscent of the Austrian handgun than other CZs. While nosotros're on Teutonic topic [ED: still], the P-10 C fits most G19 holsters. It's designed to office perfectly in LE/Mil retention holsters such equally those produced by Safariland, making a PD's [theoretical] switch from GLOCK to CZ that much easier.

The P-ten C's steel magazines lock into the gun via the rectangular slot on the front face, upwardly well-nigh the summit. P-ten C mags will work in the P-07, simply non withal the other style effectually. It looks similar soon all the P-07/09/x magazines volition have the front rectangle cutting and be compatible with each other. In other skilful news, MSRP on the P-10 C mags is a competitive $35 a popular.

Also worth noting: the P-10 C "motorcar forwards" — releasing the slide from lock upon house insertion of a total magazine. Some shooters assume this is an error or a blueprint flaw; it's there on purpose.

Those mags observe an easy home in the grip of the P-ten. The frame has some decent magwell taper molded in, and the backstrap extends down to the level of the baseplate of an inserted magazine. Although you shouldn't be missing your mag insertion, the backstrap acts as a backstop funnel for when you do. There's too a lanyard hole.

The P-x C sports a cool looking trigger shoe. It lacks dizzy anodized colors, only otherwise looks like an aftermarket hop-up role. I appreciate the fact that the safe bract depresses to almost flush with the front of the trigger — so shut, CZ, so close. This avoids a pet peeve: when a trigger safety blade goes besides far (e.g., Ruger American) or not far enough (due east.g., GLOCK).

The P-10 C'south backstraps aren't merely slapped on top of the frame; they slide on a rail. A pin across the bottom locks your mitt-size-appropriate backstrap of choice to the frame.

Grip that sucker and yous'll note that you tin can get your hand upward nice and high on the gun — merely non every bit high as on a GLOCK® brand GLOCK. The P-10'southward frame is thicker under the back of the slide. In a massive difference from CZ's norm, the slide rides outside, non inside, the frame runway.

Non to be overlooked: the shape of the P-10 C's "undercut" trigger baby-sit. It'south wide, curved, and deep plenty to fit a real person's finger. Information technology completes the confident and comfortable grip feel along with the mini cube texture that keeps hands velcroed in place.

While the ergonomics of the P-ten C'south grip shape don't feel the same as a CZ 75'due south — a golden standard — they're still neat. Everything comes to together perfectly: the calorie-free palm swells, curved backstrap, room under the slide, lack of finger grooves, and a grip angle that points naturally. In that location are guns I feel I'd have correct on target fifty-fifty with my eyes closed. This is one of them.

For those who shoot eyes open, the P-10 C'southward three-dot sights glow in the dark (later being charged by a lite source). They're also machined from steel, rather than popped-out of a plastic mold. Production versions of the P-10 C will use the same dovetail as the CZ Shadow 2, which opens up options for all sorts of adjustable competition sights, tall suppressor sights, and more.

The P-10 C'south trigger is a recipe for success. Keep much of the GLOCK'due south creep but polish it smooth, drop the pull weight downward to four-ish pounds, tweak the break so it's cleaner and less "springy," and include a fantastic reset that's tactile, aural, and really short. This is a trigger that begs to exist shot fast.

Challenge accepted! I plowed through the first couple magazines shooting way faster than I normally would. Pop-pop-popular-pop-pop, rapid burn down, like I was late getting dwelling house. I don't know much near aliens, but it'south prophylactic to say that's a dead Avatar dude right in that location.

This 26-ounce pistol shoots and so flat with such great grip control and low cage rising that keeping rails of the front sight is child'due south play. Recoil impulse is soft, too.

Feeling good well-nigh accuracy potential, I plopped out a sandbag, slapped on a Lasermax Spartan, and used it to aid me stay on target at 25 yards. Alchemist Z-Make clean, which fires a 100 grain zinc projectile, kicked things off with a 1.nine″, 5-shot group.

Sellier & Bellot in 115 grain flavour, which I believe is CZ's factory test ammo, turned in a 1.21″ grouping.

CapArms' 147 grain subsonic offering was good for a 0.92″ spread.

And expert ol' 115 grain Blazer Contumely effectively tied for first with a 0.91″ grouping, except with 4 of those shots sharing the same hole I simply must declare it the single-group accurateness winner. This is incredible accuracy from a four.02″-barreled "duty" pistol.

I burned through a few hundred rounds for this review, ranging from the Z-Clean to the cheapest reloads on the market to the 147 grain extra shiny ammo from TTAG'southward ammo sponsor, CapArms. Not one single hitch or hiccup of any sort. CZ obviously has a good reputation for reliability, and the P-10 C feels bulletproof.

My only functional gripes with the gun: the slide terminate catches firmly and demands concerted forcefulness to use as a release, and the magazine release buttons want to be pushed straight inwards, rather than rolled down onto by the pollex. Both of these issues were apparent when paying shut attention, just went entirely unnoticed when having fun on the range.

The CZ P-x C carries similar a slightly heavier (2.4 oz heavier, to exist verbal) G19. While the CZ's frame is taller than the GLOCK's, the difference shrinks to nearly nix one time you insert a magazine. The curved heel of the CZ and the more vertical grip angle may even brand that grip heel corner ever-so-slightly less probable to print.

The showtime moving ridge of product CZ P-x Cs should be hitting dealer shelves effectually Christmas. This might even include some FDE variants (as above). After that, expect a .twoscore S&Westward model (holding 12+1 rounds) and suppressor-gear up flavors.

Bottom line: It's amend than a GLOCK nineteen. It just is. In every last fashion it'southward better. The CZ P-10 C shoots flatter, faster, and more accurately. Information technology's more comfortable, points more than intuitively, grips meliorate, has a better trigger, better sights, and beefier internals. While I could personally have or leave the fully ambi mag release and slide cease, it's still a plus in the CZ'due south column. Personally, I similar my magazines improve sans plastic overmold, too. And at an MSRP of $499, it's less expensive past a hundred bucks.

I did not foresee replacing the G19 MOS on my hip. To the lowest degree of all, actually, for the P-10 C, which visually underwhelmed me when I kickoff saw information technology in photos and even in person. But its prowess on the range is undeniable. I shoot it better and more than confidently than most other pistols, which is an experience that was too shared amid other shooters. Plus who are we kidding, information technology's even so better looking than a GLOCK.

Ratings (out of five stars):

Accurateness * * * * *
In the compact duty gun category, it's a laser beam. Both mechanical accuracy and practical accuracy are incredible.

Reliability * * * * *
Strong, smoothen and confident through 300 rounds of mixed ammo and no lubrication at all. I'm heartened past the beefy internals and the general simplicity of the action parts.

Concealed Bear * * *
This may exist a "compact" gun (that'southward what the "C" is for), but like the G19 information technology'due south no single-stack pocket pistol.

Ergonomics * * * *
A marked comeback in every manner over the benchmark, but withal not CZ's finest.

Customize This * * * *
In that location's a decent, quality aftermarket for CZ parts and custom work. Sights are piece of cake to swap on this gun and there are quite a few options. Considering it fits GLOCK G19/G17/G22/etc holsters, the market place is practically limitless.

Overall * * * * *
OK, I'll say it. This CZ P-10 C is a improve gun than the G19. A 5-star gun in every way.

An of import note: The pistol reviewed here is a pre-product pistol. CZ-USA stated that merely two minor things volition be changed betwixt this gun and product guns: a slight change to the slide bevel, and the rear sight dovetail will be a Shadow 2 one instead of the P-07 style cut. It's supposed to be identical otherwise.

To exist thorough, though, a production i off the distribution racks will be arriving hither afterwards this month and some other one will be arriving at Tyler Kee's FFL. I want that furry curmudgeon with all his Apex-tuned Chiliad&P experience to counterbalance in on this gun, besides. That follow-up commodity volition take Tyler's thoughts plus trigger pull comparisons between the P-ten C and some other pistols, and if anything is materially unlike between the production guns and this gun then it will exist fabricated known hither as well.

The 147 grain subsonic 9mm ammunition for this review was provided past CapArms. Their sponsorship of most of TTAG'due south review-related ammo needs is a huge help, assuasive united states to review more guns and more gear more thoroughly.
